the Caño Negro Mixed Wildlife Refuge in Costa Rica.
The Caño Negro Mixed Wildlife Refuge in Costa Rica is a protected area of 9969 Has. It is a Ramsar site since 1991 and it is considered of international importance.
It is “A shallow freshwater lagoon near the Nicaraguan border, surrounded by seasonally inundated marshes and woodland. Part of an important network of Nicaraguan and Costa Rican wetlands used seasonally by many species of breeding or migrating waterbirds.” (Ramsar site)
According to Sistema Nacional de Áreas de Conservación (SINAC), its avifauna is made up of 307 species: 206 of them are local birds and 101 migratory.

Don Lolo Sequeira Romero was the Colibri Tours founder, in company of his wife Julia Ávalos Marenco. Mrs. Ávalos passed away on March 6th, 2007. Don Lolo passed away on December 9th, 2021.
